Calibre Review and Overview
Technology has rapidly advanced and has touched every part of modern life, including literature and books. EBooks are now available dime-a-dozen, providing the world with lots of priceless knowledge. However, the management of a huge number of eBooks can prove to be a nightmare for bibliophiles. Calibre is an open-source solution to this problem. It has two modules, one that can be used to manage digital libraries, and one that can be used for viewing eBooks of several formats.
It is also cross-platform, which means that users can access their eBook library from devices of any form factor, be it computers, tablets or mobile devices. Calibre makes the user’s library truly portable and allows them to enjoy the benefits of eBooks over bulkier, traditional books. The biggest advantage of Calibre over standard library or eBook viewing apps is that it provides an extensive application completely for free.
Calibre’s powerful library management
Calibre arms bibliophiles with a powerful eBook management application that can be used to fetch books from the user’s library on any device. Calibre can also download additional information about the books, such as authors, ISBN information and most importantly, its genre and tags.
The latter two bits of information plays a big role in categorizing and rearranging the books in the digital library. The interface is designed to be as intuitive as possible, with all the books displayed and sorted according to the received metadata. The UI can be customized with free themes to change the feel of the library.
Flexible eBook reader supporting multiple file types
Calibre provides a comprehensive experience by providing an eBook reader app with a huge feature set, exclusively on desktops. This reader can be used with a large variety of eBook formats, including the proprietary PRS-500 format. Users can also change the look and feel of the books by changing the text fonts and margins, permitting a customized reading experience.
