Segment is a well-known Data gathering and Analytics company that offers companies, individuals, and organizations a detailed insight into customer data. Formed in September 2011, Segment has grown over to achieve more than 20k companies under their belt. They possess more than 200 tools for doing data collection, marketing, analytics, and data warehouse tools. Big names like Levi, Intuit, Time, etc. are using their services. Segment Offers services in three main plans viz., Developer, Team, and Business. The Developer Plans include free services for up to 1000 visitors. It collects customer data via an integrated website and mobile app and sends it to more than 300 tools. The Team Plan is the paid one with $120/month and with a 2-week free trial too. There are many advanced tools like a data warehouse, team collaboration, better support services, etc. The Business Plan helps with complex data. It adds extra items like real-time personas, enforces protocols, granular user roles, history view, etc.
Segment Connections
This is their core product that is used to collect data from various sources like mobile apps, websites, servers, etc. with the help of an API. It works by making a Source and Destination duo. Sources are former locations from where you’d want to obtain the data, whereas Destinations are the apps and business tools that are connected to feed themselves with customer data. Info like status, environment, destination, type, etc. are present on the source and destination panels. They also use the Data Warehouse feature like MySQL, Google BigQuery, etc.
Segment Protocols
Protocol is mainly used to automate and arrange the data as per standard norms. The four main themes in the Protocol section are aligned, validate, enforce, and transform. These steps endure the best data quality and structured storage.
Segment Personas
Another core product of Segment is Personas. The five core components in it are identity resolution and profile, computed traits, SQL traits, audiences, and activation. It is mostly used to personalize the data, optimize ads, targeting, etc.
