Zulip Review and Overview

A good team has effective policies of communications that are geared toward enhancing collaboration, division of labor and delivery of better results. With Zulip, every team member can realize the potential of good communication and collaborate on solving complex problems easily, putting their collective minds at work. The platform is open-source, flexible and highly efficient. Also, it is continuously being expanded by a dedicated community, and can even be customized for the job.

Unique messaging features surpassed by none

Zulip is noted by users to be very minimalistic, and for being very good at its job of enhancing team communications. Whatever Slack can do, Zulip can do that and more, with style. Its chatting wizard is very engaging, and it provides features that make finding and making sense out of multiple messages much easier. For example, the texts can be edited using options like bullets for clearer meanings, or bold and italic texts for highlighting. Some special content is automatically and appropriately formatted, like snippets of codes or math equations.

Attaching content in a jiffy

Zulip also simplifies the sharing of content and files. This is made possible through a simple option that allows the user to browse for the file from their desktop storage. Additionally, they may also directly drag and drop the file into the window for it to be automatically uploaded. The files are transferred securely to the receiver through powerful security tunneling methods. For web content, the user has the option of sending links to the web content. If a link to a website is sent, it’ll be automatically hyperlinked. Sometimes a preview may also be generated for certain media links.

Native applications and notifications

There are several applications for accessing Zulip's messaging features, all of them either running on a device or the cloud through a web client. With the native OS applications, users can avail of the notification feature, which notifies them of incoming messages on their device. Some priority messages can even be notified of through emails. For directed messages in group discussions, the sender may use @ symbol to mention a certain person in the group.
