The SimScale software was created by five students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), with the single goal of providing CAE related software and solutions to the large markets en masse. The developers were focussed on providing advanced alternative software that is able to take on the usual on-site solutions that were available at the time.

In 2015, the developers decided to make SimScale free for all platforms, accessible for everyone.
