Duolingo is an online learning platform that allows you to learn different languages. You can learn languages through their online quizzes, games, assignments. They have various options to generate and maintain your fluency in the language.

Learning a new language

After signing up and logging in to the account, you can select the language you wish to learn. The various available options are Spanish, German, French, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, Dutch, and many more. You can select any option. Some courses only require an account on Duolingo and are free while some are paid. There are around 36 languages that you can learn through this website.

The course

Depending upon your choice of purpose, the platform provides you with assignments and exercises. They have two levels; basic and placement tests. They have typing exercises, vocabulary exercises, reading, and listening exercises. They provide you short stories or paragraphs to help you maintain fluency.

Other options

There are various other options on the platform to discuss and know the opinions of other people through the ‘discuss’ and ‘forum’ section of the platform. The stories section provides you stories to improve your fluency and vocabulary. If you do not sign up, you cannot retain the progress of your previous assignments and would need to start all again from the beginning every time you visit the website.


The shop section allows you get new skills and the website’s virtual currency. The platform is flexible and allows you to decide the duration of your everyday lesson. You can also decide your goal for every new day of the course. You can also visit the language learners near you. You can also have podcasts and the Duolingo’s dictionary.
