Hugo Review and Overview

Internet technology relies on websites. Everything is accessed through websites only. Building a website is a task as it requires technical knowledge. Hugo is a generator that takes care of every technical aspect and creates a fast and secure site for you.

Content organization

Hugo works on the idea that the structure that is responsible for the organizing of the source content is the same that is used to organize the rendered site. It has come up with a feature called the Page Bundles, which contains the page-relative images. The contents follow a hierarchy in Hugo, and the top-level displays the type of content that is used to find out the layouts. The Index pages feature help in adding content to your list templates. The list templates consist of taxonomy templates, section templates, and the homepage template. There are some single page templates that contain single content files.

Directory Structure

The framework of the Hugo system has a project directory structure. This directory is then used to create a complete website. The first directory type is the archetypes; in this directory, you can create new files of content using the Hugo new command. The files that are created contain date and title by default. You can store the files by making use of the Hugo pipes.

There is a configuration directory that contains the configuration directives. There is a content directory that holds the content for your website. The data directory contains the files that will be used by Hugo while creating your website. The layouts directory contains the templates needed to build the website. The static content like images is stored in the static directory.

Tools

It provides you with tools that help in migrating from your existing website generator to Hugo. The list of tools includes Jekyll that converts your blog from Jekyll to Hugo, Ghost tool for converting blog on Ghost to Hugo, Octopress for converting blogs in Octopress to Hugo, and many more. There is a Hugo Wrapper that helps in downloading the Hugo binary needed for your platform. Victor Hugo helps in building the website using Webpack.
