Reaper Review and Overview

Reaper is a premium, fully-featured audio editing and MIDI sequencing suite from Cockos. It is available for all major desktop operating systems and can handle many different types of plug-ins for audio workstation software. Even then, it is designed to be extremely fast and stable. Its power allows it to find use in industrial applications, while its simplicity makes it a favorite for students. It is available at a fraction of the price of all other digital audio workstations but offers the same features and then some. It can handle 64-bit audio processing as well, resulting in high-quality outputs.

Features that put other DAWs to shame

Reaper has an extensive feature set, which makes it so perfect for both simpler and advanced applications. First and foremost, even with all its processing capabilities, it never lags and crashes on a computer with the recommended hardware specifications. It is, in fact, so lightweight that it can be run as a portable application from a removable media drive, or even from a NAS drive. It has support for multichannel MIDI files, which greatly enhances its capability to process good audio. Speaking of high-quality audio, it processes audio files using a 64-bit algorithm, which is not only very fast but also produces beautiful results.

Supreme customizability

Reaper’s best feature, however, is the extreme customizability that is unseen in other digital audio workstations. There is a support for a large number of industry-standard DAW plug-in, which allows the user to extend the already extensive capabilities of the workstation. There are several audio effects preloaded, but additional effects can be downloaded as well. Last but not the least, even the interface of the DAW is extensively customizable through custom skins. The user may also customize the layout and button placements according to their convenience. These features make Reaper into one of the most powerful DAW and MIDI sequencer the world has ever seen.
