GanttProject Review and Overview
The current version of GanttProject is version 2.8 released in 2016. It offers all the essential project management tools like Gantt Charts, resource pool, export/import feature, and even collaboration. The software is designed with the most straightforward interface.
GanttProject Project Management Tools
The setup offers essential task management, subtasks, and even dependencies. It can also make HTML page-based projects. The main feature is for viewing Gantt charts. The chart shows info on tasks, their interactions, and blockages. In the resource section, we can add new users to the resource chart. Here, roles and permission access can also be assigned. They have limited the part of the project manager to a single user.
All the users added in the section are eligible for the task enrollment. Color coding is supplied by GanttProject to differentiate between the working, non-working, and even overloaded users. Program evaluation and review technique, i.e., PERT view is setup from the single option. It uses the calendar to show the values.
GanttProject Charts and Collaboration Tools
In the Gantt charts, they allow the creation of tasks and milestones. Users can add start date, task durations, set priority, fill pattern, text notes, color coding, and even custom fields or notes. The tasks can be configured in a breakdown structure. This is shown by a hierarchical tree with details of progress, costs, and completion dates. It even allows creating a dependency constraint amidst functions, which is enforced by GanttProject. Apart from this, the Gantt chart has baseline creation for the current project state.
When it comes to the Collaboration tools, GanttProject has three types of servers. It has WebDAV servers for concurrent works with lock support. Cloud storage can be used to mount cloud storage to the local system and store the files. In the case of local network connections, it will prohibit any simultaneous editing. Lastly, the data can be exported in various formats like PDF reports, PNG/JPEG images of the charts, CSV datasheets, and in new formats of Microsoft Projects and iCalendar imports. GanttProject works quite well as a free and straightforward project management software.
