MediaMonkey Review and Overview

With many media players to play those cozy movies, open-source media players grant sleek UI as well as different functionality. With each new plugin and media file formats, the need for a more exhaustive and user-friendly interface rises.

MediaMonkey is your typical open-source media manager that excels in providing all typical media player features. It was first released under the name of Songs-DB in 2001. Since then, it got its first version in 2003 and has is running on version 4.1 since March 2019. Even being an open-source project, MediaMonkey has a paid version with additional functions.

MediaMonkey User Interface and Feature List

Being a media player, the primary goal for MediaMonkey is to aid in playing all types of media files like audio and videos. It must also support most media file formats like MP3, MP4, MKV, WMV, AVI, WAV, etc. As said, MediaMonkey offers all these essential services. The UI of this player is like a typical media player with all types of controls like play/pause button, navigation buttons, player toolbar, and so on.

As for the free version, MediaMonkey has presented a dedicated movie and music manager. This can be used to manage different categories of music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, etc. They even use an Auto-DJ and jukebox mode, specially made for party themes. You can use it as a podcast player as well as a media downloader. Like any typical media player, MediaMonkey has included a DVD/CD ripper and burner service.

Other than this, they have also incorporated several file management services like file monitor, organizer, rename, tags, playlist creator, and so on. You can sync the media across various iOS and Android devices, as well as over devices like TV, DVD players, etc. This was given in the free plan too. The Gold version adds up to 48x CD/DVD burner speed, bit-rip database, customized collections, advanced playlist and search, MP3 encoding, and multi-core utilization.

Overall, MediaMonkey owing to its useful UI and thorough features, has become one of the top choices as an open-source player. Apart from above, users can also add custom add-ons improving its performance and features.
