Detailed Reviews

Making attempts to create a website with the use of coding could be an uphill struggle. For lessening the struggle, DIY software- website builders were introduced.

Initially, it may take time to learn how a website builder works. But as you start exploring each room, you will quickly get familiar with the complete builder.

Pros

  • Different Designs for Website and Online Store: Initially you need to select whether you are going to create a website or an online store. Depending upon your choice, the website builder will show various designs that you need to choose before start editing.
  • Gentle Learning Curve: The reason behind its ease to use is the simplistic design of the editor that lets you create a website from scratch.
  • Auto-Publishing: You don’t need to publish the website every time. When you make any changes after publishing it once, the changes will get saved automatically. This also helps to avoid loss of changes if the browser stops unexpectedly.
  • A few additional features: When you explore the extras tab, you will find the option of adding share buttons, newsletter popup, and cookie notice. These small elements help increase the credibility of a website.
  • Inexpensive Deal: It is comparatively cheaper than most of the website builders such as Wix and Site123. The premium plan is just $14 which even costs lesser than the basic plan of many builders.
  • Option to select interface language: There is a list of twenty languages amongst which you can select the suitable one for your interface.

Cons

  • No library of its own: Mozello doesn’t own any image or video library. Whatever media you need to add on the website can only be uploaded from your local device.
  • No templates offered: They offer various designs, but they can’t be concluded as templates, there are none. You need to set every page on your own.
  • Limited element options: Whatever elements you find on the application comes under the predefined layout. However, a limited number of options are available when you make changes to a selected section.

Overview

Mozello is the simplest amongst most of the existing website builders. Therefore, ease of use is the prime weapon that Mozello employs to face the tough competition.

Situated in Latvia, Mozello has a tiny team that handles the complete software.

The company launched the website builder in the year 2015 which makes it one of the youngest tools that people use to generate a website.

The builder is chiefly determined towards the users who wish to have their online store which can be built in a few minutes.

Following the builder’s focus, we will review the e-commerce features exclusively. The users who are beginners or want a website without dealing with complicated features can also take the benefit of the review.

Other aspects which have earned a place in the review are speed, security, and editor. You can visit the upcoming sections of the review to find out what the application has got more.

Choosing the website type

The first step is to choose whether you wish to create a website or an online store. However, the editor by which you create the website remains nearly the same.

Here, the user can see that they have prioritized online stores above other types of websites. It would be better to diversify the websites according to the user requirement such as WebStarts has done.

After you select the website type, the next step is to choose the design.

Note that these designs are not similar to templates. You can change the design anytime while editing the website, but changing a template won’t be possible.

The design just defines the theme of a website. A template defines the basic structure of a website in which one can make the changes to get the final output.

Mozello doesn’t have a template library, and so one needs to depend on the designs to construct the basic structure of the website.

Lack of template library is an unignorable limitation that must be removed if they wish to increase the userbase.

Sometimes, when you try to change the design while editing, it may cause issues if the text entered in the previous design doesn’t fit in the secondly selected design.

In such cases, you may even lose the text input in some of the sections. Same for the images.

Mozello needs to strive hard to compete with the template libraries of other website builders which own hundreds of templates.

This leads to a few disadvantages such as you need to construct the complete page with the help of the design. Prebuilt templates would just need one to add the content rather making the website building process simpler.

That’s obviously a time-consuming process depending upon the quality of structure that you create. This time consumption can only be eliminated by providing a template library.

One should note that although Mozello has this limitation, it is still easy to use website builder.

When you look at the brighter side, you may find that this option could be beneficial as well. With templates, the edits are done under constraints. When there is a blank page, you can define it as you like.

They should not remove this option, but also add templates in its addition. Then only it would be able to satisfy the requirements of all the users.

Similar to the WebsiteBuilder which has created an exemplary feature that lets you choose the type of editor.

Editor and its feature

Like most of the other website builders, Mozello also has a single website editor. This editor depends upon the layout backed up by design rather than templates and elements.

The editor is the core of any website builder. The appearance and functionality highly depend on the editor.

It is the editor which connects the user to the website builder. From here, you design your website, add the content, and implement various add-ons and integrations to create the desired.

Also, the quirkiness of your website relies on the flexibility provided by the features of the editor.

For the correct decision, it is required to go through every aspect of the editor. Let’s start with the layouts offered and then we will move forward to the elements.

When you start the editor, you end up at the homepage. On the bottom right corner, you will find the layout options.

There are only ten layout options including the one which is nothing but a blank page. Various layout options are shown in the image added below.

Besides these layouts, you can’t create a layout of your own. That shows rigidity that lowers the uniqueness when it comes to the appearance of the website.

There is an option to edit layout which edits the added sections or else you can add a new section from these options:

We don’t think that these choices would be enough for any user. For instance, wanting to add five or more text boxes in a section doesn’t look like a possible task by using Mozello. Similarly, one can’t add more than four images in a row.

So, the users who are planning to build a highly customized website with classy attributes and tempting elements by using Mozello are going to learn what disappointment is.

You have seen the layout options for the homepage and other pages. But these options are narrowed down, even more, when you move to news/Blog page and catalog section.

There you can either use a layout which includes or excludes the header. These sections are completely different from the other pages, both in appearance and how the elements are placed.

Moving to the blog section, you need to follow the predefined structure. Even if you change the design, it won’t make much difference.

Here, posts are added one after another, newest remains on the top. The issue is they are added on the same page, and one can’t choose the number of posts on a single webpage.

When anyone wants to read the older posts, he needs to scroll down to find it. They can add an option to customize the number of posts per page. It will make navigation easier and finding the required post faster.

The structure and limitations of the catalog section are discussed under the e-commerce section where you will also find the features that Mozello has provided for your online store.

Before we review the editor tools, we must know what these tools are and what’s their purpose. One must know about the features of an application to detect its ability and flaws.

We have already discussed the layouts offered for the homepage, blog, and other webpages. You can add any number of pages after choosing the page type.

You can also add a gallery where a section is added in which you can add as many as photos you want.

But we are sorry to disappoint you that there are no layout options for the gallery, and so the images will be presented according to the predefined format.

ALL the page type choices for a website are visible in the image added. Hard to swallow, but these are the only page types that you can create.

However, you will face no deficiency when it comes to the color options for different components which combine to form a webpage.

The color combination of background and the text must be soothing to eyes, and eventually, it makes your website more appealing.

There are a few predefined background and text combinations different for different designs. Also, the number of options vary according to design. We checked it for a few, and some of them have just six options whereas others have up to nine.

There is a possibility that you may even find a design with a higher number than what we have found.  As checking every design for this purpose is neither required nor a practical task.

In the advanced options, you will find a possibility for changing the color individually for all the elements.

Mozello has provided you the freedom to choose any color from the whole range.

However, you must choose it carefully as if the text doesn’t have contrast with the background then it may not be visible properly.

Adding an undo option is required here when you compare the visibility of various colors. However, if you can’t decide the right match, you can reset the chosen color.

It will lead you to the by default color rendered by design.

Similarly, various fonts are also added but with a limitation. The way you can select colors for the individual element is not present in case of the font. What you choose is applied to the whole website.

You can’t even choose to have a separate font for separate pages. That may not be a major issue, but it generates an unnecessary restriction which can be removed easily.

There are website builders who don’t let you change your domain name once selected. In the case of Mozello, this restriction is not applied, and you can click on the “Address” option in the editor’s menu to change the address.

As mentioned earlier, the only domain related disadvantage is you can’t get rid of the “.mozello” extension without the payment.

If you need to get your own domain name or build a website for the domain name that you have purchased from any other domain name provider, then you need to upgrade the plan from free to the premium version.

That you can do initially or through the editor. Here is the window where you need to input the address:

We have separately reviewed the add-ons which come under the “Extra” section.

However, one must know that due to a limited number of add-ons, operationality of the website that you create will be confined inside immensely short boundaries.

So, you can’t expect to get much out of the extra features added on the editor.

When you select the boxes that are added while adding the layout, various content editing options will appear.

You may not find them sufficient, but still, you can use it to make astonishing websites. One advantage you get here is the simplistic way of editing.

You will find a menu bar similar to the MS word’s home menu. You can inspect the features available in the bar from the added image.

Text related features such as the type, size, and style can be selected from their respective scroll lists. Apart from the basic features, it is also possible to add tables.

Mozello even has customization options for these tables which, in our opinion, are sufficient to build all sort of tables. However, the table is completely plain, and you can’t change its appearance.

All can only add or remove table cells wherever required. As you can see table related options are also visible in the image.

There is a plus sign present left to the table options. Clicking on that will lead you to some “insert options.”

Through the insert option, you can insert buttons, videos, maps, symbols, codes, and even files from the local drive.

We checked them all, and it seems like the map feature doesn’t work perfectly. As the map was not appearing on the website, and at its place, only blank space was found.

Some other settings such as setting up Google Analytics, changing the website icon, language, and provision of adding HTML codes, gives somewhat power to the user to make the changes.

Add-ons

Even though there are very few features, the ones which are added helps in some way to enhance the online presence of the website.

There are only three add-ons which you will find on the editor: Cookie Notice, Share Button and Engage. If you are looking for more add-ons, you are looking at the wrong place. Now, let’s discuss the provided add-ons.

Cookies play an important role in the analysis of user behavior towards your website. There are tremendous benefits that cookies deliver the website to know their audience.

Cookie Notice feature lets a user know about the fact that the website stores cookies in your device, and you agree to it. There are not many settings added for this feature.

You can choose the theme of the notice, and set a link to it which leads to the page providing detail information about the cookie collection done by your website. This is a very small element, but an important addition that every website requires.

One more thing that you would have seen on every website is the share option which is linked to the various social media platforms.

This add-on helps a user to connect to the website on social media and follow its social activity. Again, it is a basic feature that plays an important role. This simple addition significantly helps to increase the visitors’ engagement with the website.

Engagement option leads us to a third-party website that creates newsletters for our website. Thankfully, here you find some newsletter templates amongst which you can select the one suitable your website.

You also get a few settings related to the behavior of the newsletter such as when you wish the popup to appear for the first time and when it should appear again. You can choose the success action for the generated newsletter.

In case, you would think that are these add-ons are enough to have an extensive growth of your website, we must work to remove this impression.

When you compare it to various other website builders, you will come across analytic tools, widgets, and chat support window options which can be added to your website.

Mozello is not even close to providing you these features, and we are not expecting any such implementations in the near feature.

The websites that are created by Mozello are of simplistic design, not a recommended option for business purpose. However, you can use it for personal (Ex: blog and portfolio) purpose, if and only if you think the editor is capable enough to deliver what you wish to create.

Obtain a high Google ranking for your Mozello website

SEO plays a game-changing role when one talks about google ranking. It may not be possible for a website to earn significant visibility on the web if SEO parameters are not followed.

Search Engine Optimization was introduced so that Google users can find relevant content easily. Therefore, you need to create the website keeping your userbase in mind.

There are some parameters such as Alt Text for images, Meta Description, etc., on which the SEO depends. If the website builder lets the user work on every parameter, then it can be marked reliable.

This isn’t the case with Mozello. It has limited SEO related features which limit the growth to a website.

When you use a free version, you cannot create a website with the desired domain name. It will always have an extension of “.mozello” after it.

That reduces Google ranking significantly. Another drawback is you can’t add the HTML codes in the head section.

To eliminate these limitations, you need to purchase the premium or premium plus plan. After the payment, they will help you to improve your ranking by allowing you to add HTML codes wherever you wish.

For free plans, if you want, you can add Meta Description for every page.

Various results appear related to the keyword that users search, and the top result has the highest SEO.

If the search and keywords added to the Meta Description matches, it will be ranked by Google. However, this is one of the many factors which defines the ranking.

Blog section helps a lot to increase the SEO, and Mozello provides us the opportunity to add posts.

Looking at the current features, we can conclude that paid users have the opportunity to get a high ranking by using the SEO tools.

However, free account has a few limitations that significantly restrict growth. Hence, gaining a higher rank by using a free account would be a tough challenge.

E-Commerce Features

When you select the option of “creating an online store” initially, the editor will appear somewhat different from the one which is available for “create a website” option.

Although e-commerce features of Mozello are not highly advanced, they are enough to create a basic online store good enough to sell what you add.

A catalog option appears where you can add products that you are going to sell. But there is a limit to the number of the product that the application allows the user to add.

Free users can only add ten items, and mostly the businesses can’t work out with this restriction. Therefore, you need to purchase premium and premium plus plan when there are more than ten products.

In the premium plan also, the restriction is still present which is of thirty items. It depends on your business whether it is enough or not.

We suggest that you should directly buy the premium plus plan which offers unlimited room for the products. There is one more reason for this recommendation which we will discuss next.

A number of payment gateways significantly affects businesses. Mozello supports all the payment gateways, but only for the premium plus users.

Therefore, there is no point in going forward with the premium plan which only supports Paypal.

So, as you know about the basic e-commerce feature offered by various plans, let’s expand the catalog section to learn about the missing features (if any).

It feels blissful when you get something more than expected. The same happened with us while reviewing Mozello.

We were not expecting these many store features and editing options. As you go to catalog management, you will find the option to add a product.

The concern is whether it is possible to present the product according to your desire. For adding a product, a window appears that allows adding name, title, and description.

But what about the price of the product which is an essential detail that can’t be avoided.

When you look carefully, you will find an advanced setting option. This option is placed in a corner and may not catch everyone’s eye.

Hence, they need to either present it under a separate tab or else they must increase its visibility.

Under advanced settings, you can also input the tax, discounts, a number of variants, and the stock status.

Mozello’s e-commerce features don’t end here. Without the integration of any third-party application, you can list the customer orders.

There are catalog features that let you set the currency, payment methods, taxes, and delivery options. If one uses all these options, an efficient e-commerce website can be developed.

However, there is a long way to go where they need to add multiple features to increase the efficiency required to create enormous online stores.

They need to work a lot on the appearance of an online store as it is the most alluring element of an e-commerce website (after discounts :P).

Also, they need to add a menu option by which people can sort, filter, and categorize the product. That’s important to simplify the exploration of various products.

Categorization also helps to convert window shoppers into customers as they find it really easy to discover the required products.

If they make these suggested changes keeping the user interface as simple as now, this website builder could be preferred above others for creating an online store with ease.

Speed and Security

Do you know what is even worse than having no Internet? The throbber that indicates the presence of the slow Internet.

The fault doesn’t lie in the website’s basket when the internet is slow. But when it comes to slow webpage loading, the culprit is the website whose page the user is visiting.

The slow page loading is equally annoying to slow internet, and in both cases, the viewer needs to wait before reaching the content.

So, you or the webmaster, whoever maintains the website, needs to put a check on its speed.

Creating quality content would be of no use when visitors leave the website due to its slow loading.

The speed depends upon the size of the page; adding high-resolution images and multiple media files may make the loading act like a snail.

Animations and effects also contribute to lowering down the speed.

However, using a reliable website builder will take care of the speed, and hence, also the number of visitors.

When we talk about Mozello, we were not sure about the performance grade results that it is going to deliver.

The results were astonishing, proving Mozello will neither let you down nor the speed of your website.

The average page speed score generated by GTmetrix is 72%. The score obtained for the website which we created using Mozello was 91%.

The fully loaded time (4.5s) that you can see in the image is also half of the average fully loaded time. That suggests you don’t need to worry about the speed when you create a website using Mozello.

Their website doesn’t provide information on how they maintain such a high speed. Probably with the use of a content delivery network.

The CDN is the distribution network that is set geographically by various services. This network has data centers at multiple locations.

Therefore, the distance between the user and website builder’s data center decreases which eventually helps to reduce the latency, and thus, the loading time.

However, we can’t provide surety that Mozello offers such centers as no statement regarding CDN is placed on its website.

Considering the case that they do not offer CDN, there would be no requirement of adding it anyway. The speed that Mozello offers is comparatively higher than the results which we have a record for other website builders such as Duda.

As we have mentioned above that the speed also depends upon the size of the page, we tried to add more elements to check how it affects the speed.

In the previous case, the total page size was 511 KB which we have increased to 746 KB, and again the unexpected occurred.

We were anticipating a little decrement in the speed, but not by 18%.

So, for the websites which have small page sizes will work fine, but when the page size goes above an MB, the loading time of your website will be lower than the average loading time.

That suggests that users who are using Mozello for creating their website need to keep a check on the size of the webpages. More the size, more the loading time.

But what a user can do about the blog page?

If the reader has gone through the editor section, he will know that all the content that you add on the blog will appear on a single page.

As the content increases on the blog/news section, the size will increase which leads to high latency. That’s unavoidable while working on Mozello.

The only solution- Mozello needs to place the blogs on different pages as that will decrease the current total size.

Speed is one thing, and another which must never be compromised is the security. So, you must be curious about what are the security measures that the application has taken to safeguard your website.

Let us first ask you a question. How do you always make sure that the website you are visiting is secure?

Probably, you would always check whether the protocol is HTTP or HTTPS. The name makes it obvious, HTTPS is safer where S stands for secure.

The websites that free users generate use of HTTP protocol, and hence, they are not secure. However, they provide HTTPS protocol for the important pages which requires high security.

The payment gateways and checkouts must be secure as on these pages people submit their card details. Bearing that in mind, the application has added a secure layer for these pages by offering HTTPS.

However, the other pages do not have that provision which is a major concern. The absence of HTTPS can provide a chance for hackers to conduct a man-in-the-middle attack.

They can get access to the cookies of your website visitors which may lead to leaking of sensitive data.

Mozello must implement HTTPS for all the pages so the users can create the website without the fear of hackers.

We can conclude that speed is satisfactory as it is still above average. But our views are not the same for the security that it offers.

After you create a website, there will be visitors who wish to view your content. Even if the content is good, nobody will take the risk of visiting a “not secure” website.

That will surely harm the website’s growth. So, security can only be acceptable when they upgrade the protocol from HTTP to HTTPS form every website.

Conclusion

Mozello, with no doubt, provides an easy to use interface, but here easiness comes along with the limitations.

When one creates an account, he can get started in a few seconds, and get done within a few minutes.

That’s the fastest way to become the owner of an online store. You can start your business in no time, having your chosen domain name on the top.

However, the domain name option is only available for the paid users. By making the payment, you also get unlimited storage along with an unlimited number of items.

The application is cost-effective, and thus, perfect for small businesses who wish to gain an online presence.

Other than these features, most are available for all users irrespective of the plan. That makes it the best options for learners.

A user needs to deal with limited layouts and elements. They may add more attributes, but it may cause a decrement in simplicity. However, it is required if they don’t want there all the websites to look similar.
